Westerns and Preparing for Worlds

After only being home from US Nationals for about a week, I headed to Whistler with the Telemark team to start another round of races. Westerns was perfectly timed do some racing between both the trips down to Utah. Despite being under a fairly heavy training load during Westerns, I was very happy with all my races. I made it to the Sr Men’s B-final, making me the top junior in the sprint. The 15km classic was equally as good, as I also finished first in the Jr Men’s race. Conditions in the 15km were far from ideal, as wax and and ski selection played a huge factor!

Team Canada’s preparation camp for World’s started in Canmore on Sunday the 22nd of January. This meant I would be missing the final race at Westerns, the relay! The preparation camp in Canmore allowed for some altitude training prior to arriving in Utah. Mt Shark ski area is the same altitude as Soldier Hollow, making it the perfect place to train before World Champs! After being in Canmore for about five days, the team packed their bags and flew from Calgary to Salt Lake.

The first races of World Juniors were yesterday, my race race is tomorrow with a 10km skate. I am proud of Team Canada’s current results in the Jr and U23 sprint events, and there’s still a whole week of racing to come!
